It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination......

Am I Psychic?

A question I get asked regularly is: Can anyone be psychic?

Well in short - Yes!
We are all psychic, to a greater or lesser extent. Some are the Michael Schumacher’s of the psychic world, natural talent and great drive to use their ‘gifts‘. The rest of us are capable of being psychic through study and development. And tapping into to our deep intuition.
Being psychic or deeply intuitive is simply a case of using another sense which we all possess. Often psychic skills have different ways of expressing themselves.

Just as some of us are more open to auditory expression than others, they maybe use phrases like ‘I hear what you are saying‘ Another may be more empathic and feel what another is feeling or experiencing.

I am for example; a very visual person and that is reflected in my strongest psychic ability which is Clairvoyance. I can ‘see’ auras and can see many different energy fields. Some of what I see is commonly termed as ghosts, although I tend to feel that visualising ghosts is an effective way that the minds gives meaning and form to the energy shifts I am witnessing.

I am also, psychically tuned in to what people are thinking, which is often their true, but sometimes unexpressed thoughts. Clair cognizance – the ability to know clearly without any obvious means.

For me this is a particularly useful ability in my work with the Tarot.
Importantly not all psychics have all the skills. In psychic terms I am deaf as a post! Clair audience is not an area that has developed for me. Not even a peep! If you’ll excuse the pun.
Of recent, through developmental work, I am finding that my skills in Past Life Viewing – the ability to accurately view a person’s past life, have grown and are starting to be useful in the work that I am doing.

The point is just as most of us taste, smell, hear, touch and see so these senses are taken to a greater depth.
It can be hard to ‘believe’ what we are experiencing on our initial trips into psychic experience. We are conditioned to ‘believe’ that only what can be defined is reality. Be that through language, science, social and religious training.

But many of these are only in their infancy…think what scientific advances have been made in the last 100 years..imagine what a 1000 years will bring!
We have been on this earth for a very long time, and have the habit of dismissing old idea’s and beliefs. But our old instinctive knowledge and understanding still comes through. Much of the psychic awareness is based in survival skills we learned long ago passed down through genetic memory.
How limited our religious teachings can be - not because they are wrong or any less important but because these systems are not in the business of self exploration! They are here to give us stability and give society structure.
And the limitations of language can be a mine field when trying to explain the (currently) unexplainable! Try to describe what being in love feels like…countless artists, writer’s, poet’s, and philosopher’s over the centauries have tried to communicate the state of love, but once in solid form it often loses it’s potency. Just as trying to describe an aura or the sensation of a spinning chakra.
The surety that we just ‘know’ or ’feel’ can be incredibly strong. That gut reaction is hard to pin down but it’s there , as clear as day! And that is the basis for many of the psychic experiences we have.

Much of understanding and progressing as a psychic is trust.
Trust in your self and trust in the universe that there is more than what you can simply see.
Trust also that you are not going mad! I joke not, when my psychic abilities came to the fore I truly questioned my sanity and sought guidance through the church and others. Thankfully, I realised that I was not going nuts, and began to take tentative steps towards a fuller and deeper world.
You may find that you are already well on the way to developing your psychic skills and you are seeking guidance and support in this. It can also be a deeply personal and spiritual journey developed through mediation and other techniques.
Psychic development can be a very practical and wonderfully rewarding thing to share. Being able to advice, comfort and enlighten people is incredible!
We are all psychic it is merely a case of taking steps into a wider world!

Snow

Psychic Connections

Someone asked me the other day if it was difficult giving psychic readings or clairvoyant readings over the telephone or via email, I didn't hesitate with my answer. To me there is really no difference between a face-to-face psychic reading and a distance psychic reading; in many ways I now prefer it.

To me if I am going to link with someone it matters little where they are psychically, what matters is the connection. In many ways to conduct a psychic reading over many miles and not actually see the person goes further to substantiate what is happening.

To the sceptics who say a Medium, Clairvoyant or Psychic is merely "Cold Reading" the sitter then psychic telephone readings must be considered favourably. Granted there are still some unscrupulous companies out there who take on anyone providing they can memorise a script, but you can normally spot these scammers.

I believe that a good psychic generally doesn't need to ask a lot questions, but there are exceptions.

Sometimes I look for clarification of what is coming through; it's a way of confirming what I am are seeing. There can be alot of information and it helps to filter through to the relevant bits!If I ask for clarification I ask my sitter to answer with a yes or no making it clear I don't mind the no's because they help too! Sometimes there just isn't a connection, an honest psychic reader will always admit if the link is weak or they are having trouble linking.

I often ask a question or two at the start of a reading where the sitter wants to concentrate on a particular subject, say a relationship. To save time and the sitters money a psychic may ask for a name and date of birth for instance of the other party, again I see nothing wrong in this. Sometimes I use not just tarot but numerology, astrology and runes, so extra information would be asked for to utilise these. (But be wary of a constant barrage of questions concerning the person then I would be ending any call pretty fast.)

I do feel that the people who are drawn to come to you for a reading are going to usually get the most valuable information. Their guides, angels and so on usually know if the psychic with be able to convey the information effectively to the person for maxium benefit.

Sadly, you don't always have messages that the person would like to hear, I call it tough love on the behalf of the guides! But remember that if you have had the courage to look into yourself and try to discover some of you purpose or path, then your guides and guardians want the best for you and will be overjoyed at the opportunity to convey messages to you!

Overall, a psychic reading is an amazing experience and often the beginning of a wondrous journey of self-discovery!

Three Decks

I use The Gilded Tarot for many of my clients readings, and use them on my workshop days. They are vibrant which works well for my personal preference for strong artwork and colour. However, they are also suitably close to the Rider Waite style that they are good for teaching.

Ciro Marchetti, the artist, has produced two more decks.

The Tarot of Dreams & The Tarot of the Divine Legacy ( to be published by Llewellyn later this year).

The Tarot of Dreams is a self published deck, with an interactive CD to accompany the deck. It has animations of the cards...adding further depth to their meanings.

For example, the card of the Fool shows the following animation: a kitten's paw batting at a flying butterfly, movement of the white dove, and a shimmering, glimmering crystal ball. The text for the Fool is as follows:

In brief:
Being Foolish, playing the fool, making fun of something. The beginning part of an endeavor or journey. An unorthodox or nonconformist approach. Being a catalyst for change.

Path on the Tree of Life:
Sphere 1 Consciousness (Keter) connect to Sphere 2 Energy (Chokhmah). As the Fool's journey begins, consciousness manifests itself as pure energy, without any rational or ethical restrictions.

Hebrew Letter:
Aleph means Ox. The ox is used to till the fields, preparing them for the introduction of seeds, which will eventually grow.

Astrology:
Uranus, the planet of eccentricity, originality, and anarchy.
I would dearly love these but I believe they are now out of stock and unlikely to be produced again.

Finally, he has created the Legacy of the Divine Tarot. These are firmly on my wish list. They look even more intense than the other decks...if that is possible! His use of people in the cards works well, as they play a very prominent role..you certainly can't ignore them. The jewel like colours may not appeal to everyone and indeed, occasionally it is refreshing to use a calmer less rich deck.

I love to see a progression of an artists work, and in the Tarot it is especially exciting.

Nathalie Hertz is another artist who has produced three decks. The intense and darker Vampire Tarot Deck (for full review on these click here) And the colourful and rich Faerie Tarot (here for review)
And my personal favourite and a deck I use alot the Fantastical Tarot . In these decks, like the Ciro Marchetti there is a distinctive style and many recurring themes. But the artist develops each deck that it forms it's own identity and makes them very individual.

Maybe I should start collecting deck sets by the same artist...umm just an excuse to get more tarot cards!!

The Buddha Tarot

The Sanskrit meaning of mandala is circle. The circle is a symbol of perfection, eternity, unity and completeness. Given these meanings, it's no wonder mandalas are such important symbols in all cultures.
Mandalas are incredibly versatile and can personify any number of meanings for the viewer. The meaning each mandala holds is limited only by the creator and the observer.

Along with the meaning of mandala, comes the use of it. There are many uses, the following paragraphs will outline the basic process.

The design of the mandala is to be visually appealing so as to absorb the mind in such a way that chattering thoughts cease, and a more philosophic or spiritual essence envelopes the observer which in turn leads to higher consciousness or awareness. In short, a mandala can be seen as a hypnotic, letting the creative hemisphere of our mind run a little more free while our analytical mind takes a little nap.
That said, we use the mandala as a form of meditation for the purpose of gaining knowledge, primarily the kind that resides within each of us.
Before meditating, we must first set an intention. Normally, we select a mandala that appeals to us. It is good to know what the meaning of mandala you've chosen - or set your own meanings/intention before focusing on it.

For example, focusing on the Native American labyrinth mandala, we know this meaning of mandala relates to beginnings, our eternal nature, and how this is relative to our life journey. So, before meditating on the mandala we set the intention to more clearly understand our life journey, or be shown guidance in a particular area we are having trouble on the path.

Once we have set our intention, we begin to focus on the mandala. Let your eyes take in the beauty of the designs, allowing your mind to wander as it will. If your mind begins to chatter (i.e., I should do laundry, have to get milk, need to finish that report for work), simply bring your attention back to the beauty of the mandala. Get inside the mandala, simply fall into it, swim in it, let it absorb all of your attention. As you fall into the mandala, you will begin to feel lighter, and intuitive thoughts may arise. Relax and float with the thoughts and feeling that come to you. If you begin to feel lost, uncomfortable or if you get the "chatter" again, simply focus your attention back on the mandala.
Each observer has different experiences. However, the overall consensus is that meditating with the mandala leaves the observer relaxed, and he/she comes away with a resolution or clarity concerning the intention that was set before the meditation.

By colouring mandalas, we allow ourselves to play. By playing, we open up a broad range of creative and intuitive processes that we don't normally experience in our day-to-day lives. It is play that will always open up our spirit, and facilitate a connection to our higher understanding and purpose.
By colouring or painting these powerful symbols, we also become a part of the circle, which involves us in the cyclical nature of our bodies, our lives, our thoughts, our emotions, just about everything. The act of mandala coloring draws us into the very circle of life.
Further, this artistic activity is like speaking a language. Our bodies and our minds connect and engage in a process that allows for our entire nervous system to explore new realms of identity. Performing this necessary and artistic function with a mandala further encourages our souls to sing as our spiritual and physical nature come chime in with harmony.

What a great card it is...never fails to bring a flutter of excitement and hope to my day, has to be one of my favourites.

It's snowing today...sadly not the beautiful powdery, dry snow of the Alps but the wet, slush of Edinburgh!

However it has inspired me to look into any tarot cards that may depict snow.

5 of Pentacles often has snow. The imagery of snow deals with being "out in the cold," isolation, and exposure to harsh conditions. However, anyone who has stepped outside just after a fresh snow can tell you the beauty is stunning. Clean, crystalline, and quiet. These are also symbolic qualities of snow.

When the flakes fall in your eyes it is a matter of perspective - we can either see the snow as isolation or we can see it as a fresh clean blanket - waiting for us to make a few snow angels in it.

I found this stunning looking deck Fantastical Creatures Tarot and the Death card has this snowy scene with Fenris-Wolf.

The The Fairytale Tarot has The Chariot with the Snow Queen, which is very wintery and highlights the cold, arrogant aspect of this card in readings.

The Viking Tarot depict the pips in a seasonal order and here is the Queen of Chalices.

Unicorn Oracle

I bought the Magical Unicorns Oracle Cards for my daughter's Christmas...she is obsessed by unicorns!

Whilst I admire and respect Doreen Virtue enormously, the cards are a disappointment to my mind. They are so many differing styles and I feel differing purpose as well. They are not sure if they are for adults or children. The captions and titles vary in advice, from profound to eat more fruit! Personally this seems a little trite for an Oracle deck.

However, I appreciate that there are no hard and fast rules! And my daughter is extremely happy with them!

Walk the Labyrinth

I have been researching Labyrinths today. Fascinating subject ...without wanting to preach to the already converted I thought I'd share a small post here.

The Labyrinth is an ancient archetypal pattern found in many cultures around the world dating back more than 4000 years. One of the most famous is Chartres Cathedral in France.
Unlike a maze that challenges the mind with blind alleys, dead ends and choices to be made labyrinths have only one clear, winding path leading you from the outer edge into the centre and back out again. Walking the path offers a unique space to slow down, still the mind and explore the inner landscape of the soul.

When you enter the Labyrinth you can trust yourself to the simple path ahead and begin to slow down. As you walk to the centre let it be a time to release the thoughts and feelings preoccupying you. Allow your mind to quieten.
When you reach the centre be still. It is a place of openness and receiving.
As you return along the same path reflect on any insights and connections that may have come to you and begin to integrate new insights and possibilities into your life.

For some the experience of walking the path may offer a renewed sense of well-being and inner peace. Others may use it to focus on a particular question or issue. For others it will be primarily a path of meditation or prayer. There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth. Use it in whatever way is helpful for you.

Edinburgh is lucky enough to have two: a permanent outdoor one in George St gardens and the other, a indoor canvas one at the Chaplaincy in the University...I am hoping to walk both by the end of the month.

In the meantime, I am going to spend the rest of the day making a finger Labyrinth. Not sure what medium to use, perhaps I should get some clay or maybe quilt some silks to make a nice foldable one.

Pearls of Wisdom

The Pearls of Wisdom Tarot promises to be an amazing deck. I am intrigued by the seemingly chaotic colours and artwork. Whilst I do love many digital art decks, I am excited by the artwork and by the looks of them there will a huge depth in any reading. All the reviews are saying that the back story of the artist adds a wonderful understanding and meaning to the cards.

"Here was an artist who had been through heart-wrenching personal tragedy and illness, yet managed to paint the most optimistic, cheerful deck I had ever seen. Book of Hours & Almanac

I have been reading about these and have studied Book of Hours for many years, the sumptuous Illuminated Manuscripts are amazing and beautiful. So, in my search for unusual and stunning Tarot (& Tarot related items) I have found some bits I wanted to share.

Here are the Illuminated Tarot, based on the Rider Waite deck but intensely coloured to give a rich and much more interesting card. I am not a fan of the Rider Waite decks, however I'd be willing to give this a try! The swirling colours in the back ground suggest more depth and complex readings would be gained.

Llewellyn's Magical Almanac covering the moon phases and magical events, festivals and important dates throughout the year. There are articles and stories which provide a nice extra addition to an already well planned almanac. Llewellyn offer more; Witches' Spell-A-Day Almanac, Herbal Almanac, and an Astrological version.

The Modern Medieval Tarot and rich in colour and vibrancy. Although this is a digital photographic collage deck, I think that it has been done well. The landscape is full and contains many hidden things. The faces are modern, as if looking back to medieval times, through a tunnel.

A Book of Hours is the most common type of surviving medieval illuminated manuscript. Each book of hours is unique in one way or another, but all contain a collection of texts, prayers and psalms, along with appropriate illustrations, to form a reference for worship and devotion.

The typical medieval manuscript called a book of hours is an abbreviated breviary, the book containing the liturgy recited in cloistered monasteries. The books of hours were composed for the lay people who wished to incorporate elements of monasticism into their devotional life.

An Almanac is an annual publication containing information in a particular field or fields often arranged according to the calendar. Astronomical data and various statistics are also found in almanacs, such as the times of the rising and setting of the sun and moon, eclipses, hours of full tide, stated festivals of churches, terms of courts, lists of all types, time lines, and more.

These have certainly made me want to keep a yearly diary of my tarot and rune casting. I encourage my students to keep tarot journals, but it is something that I haven't done for a few years. I think it will be interesting to see the patterns that emerge and also, how key moments throughout the year impact upon the tarot.

So, on my Google Calendar I will put my daily Tarot or Oracle cards that I pull. I will be interested to see how they compare with yours!

Tarot & Crystals

There are several crystals which correspond to the Major Arcana. These combo's have been based on Mary K. Greer's excellent Tarot for Your Self: A Workbook for Personal Transformation. I have some of the uses for the crystals...I thought it might be interesting to pull a tarot card daily and use the corresponding crystal.

The Fool ~ Turquoise
Metaphysical Properties: Communication, protection, grounding. Spirituality, connection between physical and spiritual planes.
Chakras:Attunes all chakras. Blue-Green turquoise is good for use at the 2nd Chakra. Blue Turquoise is good for the 5th Chakra

The Magician ~ Citrine

Metaphysical Properties: Citrine is one of the only stones which dissipates negative energy, Warm energy, promotes optimism. Also attracts abundance, and is known as a merchants' stone, to be placed in cash register or where one conducts business, to not only acquire positive wealth but to maintain it as well.

Activates third chakra. Enhances body's healing energy. Good for mental focus, endurance, and self-esteem.

The High Priestess ~ Moonstone

Metaphysical Properties: Balancing, intuition,discernment. Feminine, lunar energy. Good for female reproductive system. Also has been used for protection during travel, and to bring good fortune.

Chakras: cleanses negativity from the Chakras.

The Empress ~ Emerald

Metaphysical Properties:Loyalty, sensitivity, stone of successful love and domestic bliss. Enhances memory and mental capacity. Eliminates negativity, and allows one to focus. Brings harmony to all aspects of life. Can help to maintain rhythmic breathing during meditative state.

The Emperor ~ Ruby
Metaphysical Properties: Love, purity, spiritual wisdom, knowledge, wealth. Amplifies energy. Protective.

The Hierophant ~ Topaz

Metaphysical Properties: crystal of love and success. Promotes individuality, expression, and creativity. Stores energy, thoughts, love.

2, 3, 4 of Swords

Two of Swords

The Two is holding the world at bay. The crossing of the heart allowing no emotion through, similarly the blindfold to stop involvement with people and their emotions. The fear and anger are in balance, leaving the figure tense between them. In a reading this can be a very positive card showing us that we maybe able to hold the turmoil at bay whilst the clarity of the swords helps us see through the problems. It can show us that we have strength, but the lesson is to remove the the blindfold and learn to accept love and emotions. Anger and fear are not ultimately useful tools to us.

This state can make us rash and prone to anger and resentment. If the balance is upset then it is easy to become overcome by problems.

Three of Swords

Heartbreak, sorrow, pain...not the most promising start! True sorrow can teach us to move beyond it, let our hearts know truth and become strong. Knowledge and comprehension give us great strength, we need not fear. Grow and transform these pains into love and accpetance.

Be wary that the healing doesn't beomce blocked. Do not push the hurts away and try to forget them, this weakens us.

Four of Swords

The Four is withdrawal. Sometimes this is through our inability to function in the world, and understand the people around us. Other times, withdrawal is important to rest and allow us to grow stronger to win over our problems. However, it is often outside energy that is needed to help bring us back into the world. Sometimes people need to reach us and shake us out of our retreat and at others, situations will.

The Winter Suit

In tarot circles there are many conflicting views as to what suit is attributed to each season.

I think it is often wise to work within the deck you are using, as the artist has often coloured appropriately.

However, if it is not overtly clear then I usually go with:

Cups: Summer

Pentacles: Spring

Wands: Autumn

Swords: Winter

And with that I thought I'd spend the next posts exploring the Swords, for a nice winter theme!

Ace of Swords

Aces are the essence of the suit, the core, the root. They are clear and untroubled by complexity, perhaps they can be seen as the ideal, the standard for which to aim.

They can come at the beginning of the suit e.g ace through king. Or as Waite uses them from the king counting down to the ace. From worldly status and responsibility to spiritual clarity and truth.

The Ace of Swords is like ice water being splashed in your face! It is intellect. Cutting through emotions and illusions, you gain true perception and truth. We need the Ace to balance the emotional intuition derived from the Ace of Cups. How can we take action and use our strengths if we cannot think clearly?

The Ace of Swords can remind us to keep a grip on reality. And not to allow illusion to colour our vision. Often we need this Ace to put things into perspcetive. Relationships may seem more intense than they really are, emotions can be violently flowing through us. Understanding the balance that the Ace of Swords brings, can helps us control these impluses.

The Path Ahead

The last year or so has been a roller-coaster ride in the strangest way for me. On the surface things are running smoothly and to the outsider I live an amazingly blessed life! (Which, incidently, I don't dispute!)
However, I don't think you ever describe me as a simplistic soul...if there's some potential for things to be complex and full of hidden depths you'll find it in relation to me. I am fortunate that I have enough self knowledge to understand this an usually life doesn't suffer as a result!
But this year has highlighted the areas that I have been studiously ignoring!

I have been receiving Theta Healing (from the wonderful Susan @ Theta Healing Scotland) and boy has that blown so doors off!
So, now I am at point where I can't deny anymore the path before me...BUT... I am resisting it with every fiber of my being.
Rationally, I see that there is no point in denying, I understand the consequences of such behaviour. Emotionally, I have the courage for the huge changes that the path ahead will bring. Practically, I have or am working on the skills...
But there is a silly side of me stamping my foot, saying I don't want to do this!!!!

I hope it will pass...I'm sure it will...but it doesn't help at 3am....

Tarot Card of The Day..

6 of Cups

Strong foundations must be created to build upon. We usually create these foundations during childhood. These foundations are obvious if you were to focus on them as education, each year of school successively building upon another in terms of worldly training preparing us for jobs. These foundations are not as obvious if you attempt to see them in terms of relationships among family and peers. These relationships are generally taken for granted and rarely examined closely to see how well they were set. But these are the foundations upon which we must build future relationships.
This card asks us to look back and evaluate the past. It is not a time to be nostalgic and dwell in the past, to wallow in remembrances of sweet memories. It is a time to see past events and relationships as a mirror, to see the reflections and effects the past has made on the present. For then we can see our motivations and true reactions more clearly as we go forward on our path through the present and future events and achieve success in important tasks and relationships.

What a place it is!
Beautiful and seductive with it's glorious architecture and unique setting. Filled with closes (tiny alleys) that invite exploration and cobbled streets that hold many a footprint of learned scholars.
The air is full with a sense of turbulent history, from John Knox and the Reformation to Major Wier and his sorcery.

Ohhh what can I say these are delicious!

The artist Penelope Cline, has created the Major Arcana and a plus one card, The Artist. Read more here about her inspiration etc. http://www.figtreepress.co.uk/ThePenTarot.htm

They arrived beautifully boxed and wrapped in lovely black felt. The cards are a nice large size, which I think is good for a major's only set. The cards are abit on the thin side but these are so special that I doubt you would subject them to hard use!
The book let that comes with them is unusual, in that she doesn't give us the cards meanings beyond a quote, some of which is on the bottom of the card.
I particularly like The Chariot:

The black, white and gray and then the unexpected splash of colour is stunning and really makes you 'read' these cards. I use decks that are very colourful, usually packed with detail and often very complex and difficult cards to read, so these are a refreshing change. They are almost more like oracle cards in the way they encourage meditation.

If these cards are still available (strictly only 100) I urge you to get them, a beautiful and highly personal deck to enhance any collection.

I have just bought some clear quartz runes...and they are lovely!! The feel amazing in your hands are a pleasure to cast. I'm pretty much a novice with these but seem to be finding my way fairly well...it is fun using different divination tools.

I also own 2 small obsidian scrying mirrors that are very intense to use but utterly fascinating.
I love experimenting and combining methods, I think to be a successful reader of any system you need to make it strongly your own. The methods that are given for most tools are only a basis and an outline, there to be built upon.

I have the Universal Wisdom Oracle which I use as my daily card to meditate on. Today I pulled this one:

Lots to think about there. I don't view myself as a 'healer' directly but then the sort of counselling and guidance that is offered through the tarot and psychic insight are a form of healing. The points about love and trust are very enlightening, I'm not a gushy sort of person, in fact, I can be quite formidable (allegedly!) but I am a believer in tough love. We will see.....

Makes me happy to have lots to contemplate, we are all complex beings and it is very fulfilling to explore our many facets.

I am thinking of producing a few podcasts, some of which will ties in with my Introduction to The Tarot course.

I thought it would be nice to have a History of Tarot produced in this way. I think that some information on the Internet is better absorbed through talk than in writing. When faced with reams of text on the computer my brain starts to melt, and I am a huge reader in the real world....but I prefer small and easily digestible chunks online!

Podcasts are so popular with the rise of the i-pod and so forth. The History of Tarot seems to be the perfect candidate for the format...so time to polish my voice.....

It seems that all the tarot I'm attracted too are either out-of-print or very rare or indeed uber-unobtainable!!!

Ukiyoe Tarot...anything between £40 - £300..and they go like hotcakes on Ebay...and I keep missing the cheaper ones!

Well they arrived! But I am disappointed in the ways I didn't think I would be!!

The colours are lovely, very autumnal but the pips are so similar that you really have to look at the title of the card to double (probably treble) check which card you are reading. The swords are the strongest, showing real passion in the content but the others are very samey.

The major have a few surprises, the Moon is unusual with 2 women, and The Sun is very nice. They have a simplistic look, and frankly the faces are far too blank, and asexual.

However they would likely appeal to younger readers, who already have a reasonable working knowledge of the tarot!

So the up shot is; one Fenestra Tarot deck for sale.

I discovered this spread and thought what a great idea!! I guess you could lay the cards in book format or however you felt was appropriate.

The question remains what deck could you use? Something rich in art and inspirational in itself...just be careful not to fall in love with a passing Knight!

I am currently waiting for amazon to deliever the Fenestra Tarot. They have been on my wish list for over 2 years, and so I finally took the plunge!
I am slightly nervous that these will be too wishy-washy for my particular taste. I love very colourful & powerful decks, usually ones that are troublesome and difficult to read, which probably says alot about me! However the below review gives me hope.

'The artwork of the Fenestra Tarot excels in beauty. These are probably among the most beautiful tarot cards I have ever seen. There are beautifully flowing lines in Art Deco (Art Nouveau) style with whirling plants, leaves, vines and water. They give movement to the pictures which would otherwise perhaps appear too static. The colours are soft and muted but never too mild or vague. The overall feeling is a bit autumnal; there are lots of yellows and soft reds, beautiful shades of rust, olive and grey.' by hermea see full review here

Faerie Tarot

My new Faerie Tarot deck by Nathalie Hertz arrive yesterday (anything recommended by Moonlight is worth checking out!)
Although I've only done a couple of readings, I have to share how wonderful this new deck is. It is produced to the same high standard as both the Fantastical and Vampire Tarot decks although the cards are more square - making it very comfortable to handle. The images - no paintings, they are so exquisite! - are so colourful and bursting with life and meaning.
The minor arcana has been represented traditionally, but has also been attributed a season: Swords - winter, Wands - autumn, Cups - spring and Pentacles - summer. What could have been just an artistic twist is in fact an attribute of power. As each card unfolds there seems to be a depth and power awakened by the settings of the seasons. Perhaps because of the nature setting and the elemental faeries, these cards feel quite Druidic.
As with all Nathalie Hertz's decks I feel very drawn into the world she creates and each deck seems to tap into a deep knowledge within me as I do readings. With the Faerie Tarot my readings so far have been very life giving and optimistic.
A simple past/present/future reading pinpointed both past and present very accurately and accessibly and the future card while telling me I had challenges ahead brought a sparkle of magic with it and I felt quite invigorated and raring to go!
They really are a gorgeous deck and I'm looking forward to uncovering their secrets.

The Vampire Tarot by Sue Lloyd

When I first ordered the Vampire Tarot I was nervous that it would turn out to be just another novelty deck.
I already owned the The Fantastical Tarot its sister deck, and loved working with it because of its colourful and vibrant interpretations of the tarot.
I though it would be interesting to work with the two decks together. I wondered if because they were designed by the same artist, Nathalie Hertz, there would be a connection between them, a heightened energy when used together in spreads.
So when they finally arrived I couldn’t wait to open them!
The Vampire Deck is amazing. Firstly the cards themselves are high quality. They are a comfortable width for ease of handling. The background edge is black which is effective in highlighting the pictures. The back of each card is a blood-red and black freehand design. Each face has a red border and on the left and right sides, a border of skulls and leaves. At the top of the Major Arcana are Roman numerals and each card has its name at the bottom – the Sun or Seven of Swords. Unlike many decks these are fairly simply laid out. There are no Hebrew letters, runes or astrological symbols.
The vampires depicted on the cards are powerful, sometimes scary and sometimes strangely attractive. I’d like to point out that I’m not normally into the sexy vampire thing, but actually in these cards you forget the Dracula myths and get drawn into the archetypal aspects of each card. Justice for example is a vampire woman holding a set of scales in her left hand and a sword horizontally above her head with her right hand. She has a necklace of crystals and her wild hair is black and streaked with white. She is primitive, stark and uncompromising.
Not every card has a vampire on it. None of the cups have but they are still visually enticing and somehow it’s as if the vampires are just waiting in the wings, ready to step into the picture.
The colours and pictures are raw, brilliant and sometimes very uncompromising. Right from my first spread I felt as if I was stepping through a window into my own psyche. One of my favourite things is that each vampire has a distinct face. They are all individuals. This is especially noticeable and valuable in the Court cards. I’ve been working with Mary Greer and Tom Little’s book Understanding the Tarot Court
Their approach works heavily with Jungian archetypes and the personality of each Court card. The Vampire Tarot is an ideal learning ground for this.
I’ve used this deck in many different spreads and for different questions. Personally, I find they work best in areas where I’m exploring my own motivations and lessons I need to learn. Though not a spiritual deck, I do find that they highlight aspects of my character which I need to strengthen or where I need to exercise caution if I am not to play out a painful lesson.
And yes, I have used them along with the Fantastical Tarot. The spreads have been complex and usually weighing up two distinct choices. Each time the energy between the decks and the way the individual cards balanced against each other gave a very powerful reading.
I would say that this deck is best used by someone who is a pretty confident reader. There aren’t a lot of clues to each card’s meaning in the traditional sense. But for me, that is one of the big attractions. The Vampire Tarot is a very instinctual deck and I love it!

Cleansing Space

After a reading, it is important that you clear the space that you did the reading in of any energy left from the client. Even positive energy will potentially disrupt any subsequent readings that you may do.
Often the client leaves intense emotional and psychic energy behind. A reading can often bring emotions and uncomfortable issues to the fore and you, as the reader do not want this to 'stick' to you.

If you have done several readings, there tends to be a build up which needs to be cleansed and cleared both from the reading area and your own energy field.

Smudging
Smudging is method to help cleanse the aura and work area of unwanted energy. This requires you to burn sacred herbs such as white sage, lavender, rosemary, perhaps even eucalyptus, and then blow out the flame and use the smoke to cleanse.A small bowl, often ceramic in nature, (although any vessel which is fire proof and doesn’t get too hot will do) is used in order to avoid any cinders escaping. Needless to say, you do not want to burn the place down!!

Flower Essences
Make up a spray of appropriate flower essences to spray when the client leaves. I use a few drops of Bach Rescue Remedy with Crab Apple added to a spray bottle. But use which ever blends and brands work best for you.

Cleansing the Reading Area
To cleanse the area before the start of your reading and afterwards, you may use several methods. Make sure that you air the room thoroughly by opening the doors and windows. Allow the breeze to blow through. A white candle will help burn off negative energy during the reading and therefore helps to make the cleansing afterwards easier.

Crystals
There are many crystal you can use, some to ground you and others to help cleanse the area. Again personal preference comes into this but remember that crystals can have a powerful effect on clients and the readings the cards can give so perhaps wearing a small quartz would be the least offensive.

Cleansing Your Cards
Cards also soak up unwanted energy. Reshuffling the deck maybe enough, but sometimes returning the deck to it's complete order - The Fool to King of Pentacles will be necessary.
Sometimes I use a different deck for each client, or alternate two decks. At the end of the day remember to cleanse them thoroughly with your crystals, smudging, salt or placing them in a singing bowl. Wrap them in their silk cloth or bag overnight.

Music/Toning Cleansing
Putting on some boppy music up loud (if that is your preference) helps to blow away the cobwebs - spiritually speaking that is!! The loud vibrations from your favorite music creates positive energy which fills the room to the corners.
This also applies to the use of any toning implements; such as the use of Tibetan Prayer Bells, singing bowls, talking bells - where you run a wooden implement round the base of the bell or the rim of the dish to produce a vibrating tone which hums through your body and the immediate area. It has a clearing effect.

Sacred Symbols
Dropping sacred symbols in the reading area also helps to cleanse the room. You may use symbols from any healing modality that you are familiar with - their positive vibrations all help to eliminate unwanted energy.Another favorite method is to create a spiritual universal vacuum cleaner. Using the Che Ki Rei; symbol (Reiki symbol) and visualization, you can create a vacuum cleaner which automatically sucks up negative energy and removes it, turns it into positive energy.

Living Plants
Some readers like to place plants to suck up unwanted energy. Plants and animals can be attuned to Reiki energy and this gives them a certain amount of protection but they must also be cleansed properly - just as we have a bath or cleansing method for us, so must they be cleansed or you run the risk of them becoming unwell.

So in conclusion, remember that cleansing of the reading area and you, the reader, is just as vital as giving a clear and un-polluted reading to your client. Therefore there will be no transference of negative energy from one client to another, or client to the reader.

Over the years, Tarot has gained a reputation as a means of fortune telling. Many people, including me, are uncomfortable with this role of Tarot. Many readers are trying to 'educate' that the Tarot can and should be viewed in a better, less old fashioned light.

Tarot can be used effectively for many things other than fortune telling.

Learning About The Past And Present – To avoid the fortune telling side of Tarot – which implies the foretelling of future events - it can be used to understand the events of the past, and situations you are facing at present.

Through this, you gain insight into your thinking of the past events, and this may help you find out ways to improve your relationships in the future.

Study The Symbols – Tarot is full of archetypal symbols. Archetypal symbols are those symbols that are embedded in our mind, in our psyche, from the time of our birth. These are symbols that we just instinctively recognize for what they stand for, when we just look at them. By studying these symbols, we learn a lot about how the mind works, and what goes through it. Many symbols used in Tarot are based on religion, astrology, alchemy, psychology, numerology, color and other systems. When we start using Tarot cards, we learn a lot about them.

Developing Spirituality And Philosophy – Tarot is not just a group of unrelated cards. The 22 cards of the Major Arcana represent the journey of the Fool through its life, and the various things he learns and picks up along the way. The cards tell of the challenges he has faced and how he has learned to overcome them. Through Tarot, you learn the tools to understand life, its patterns, and ways of dealing with situations that are difficult. The understanding of life through Tarot can be integrated into an individual’s religious, spiritual, and philosophical beliefs, and help develop them.

Use For Meditation – Through meditation, you can bring the positive qualities represented by the various cards into your life. For this to happen, you need to select a card that stands for the qualities to wish to increase in your life, or the card whose actions you want to emulate – and meditate on it. Place the chosen card in a place where you can see it, and think about it all day long. Let the image of the card be in your mind always. This will help trigger the thoughts and behavior represented by the card, in you.

A Source For Counselling – Tarot has been known to be used for counselling. It helps draw out whatever is going on in an individual’s mind, not necessarily in the conscious mind, but much deeper, where it is not easy to access the thoughts. The card that appears in a reading is full of rich archetypal symbols and meaning, and this reflects how the individual responds, to a given situation, in his mind. Tarot counselors are known to draw these ideas out, which help them understand the underlying thought and feelings of the individual.

Tarot counselling is very helpful where children are involved. It helps extract stories from children, stories of difficult situations that children find difficult to tell directly.

The Rohrig Tarot

The Rohrig Tarot is a phenomenal deck with fabulous art work by Carl Rohrig that embraces college and painterly skill in every image.I have to admit that of all the decks I own (and that is no small number) the Rohrig are my favourite. One of my first decks, they are full of exciting and powerful imagery. I love the modern images and the move away from the traditional medieval influence. They are initially shocking to many people and I have heard some pretty virulent tirades against them. The nudity seems to offend implying a sexuality that people seem to find off putting. Personally, I think that Carl Rohrig adores women and is showing the power and influence the female energy has over the tarot and indeed our lives. But I feel that it is important with all Tarot decks to look beyond the initial images, they are made to mediate and discover deeper meanings and the Rohrig is a prime example of this.The Major Arcana are all full of the imagery we associate with more traditional decks, for example: The Fool is depicted with an old and young face split in two, and also a tiger and crocodile in place of the traditional dog. These cards demand that you look deeper and study them for the meanings. They all have runes and the Hebrew letters depicted and many have the astrological symbols for the planets and star signs. It is refreshing to not have the predictable red, horned Devil and having Death as a woman.

The Minor Arcana do not disappoint either. Everyone is as complex and exciting as the Majors. Again things are not immediately obvious but by looking closely you will find all you need and more to extract a great reading. King are not featured in this deck but Princesses, Princes, Knights and Queens, again highlighting the artist's appreciation of women.

The deck is larger than your normal which allows the colours and details to be displayed clearly. The white edging around the cards does not detract, unlike with other decks. The font is clear and there are often clues to the cards meanings in German and English writing on the images. The college style is used to convey some sketches of the Rider Waite, for example in Judgement. This is common throughout the deck and will appeal to traditionalists.
There are some disturbing images and many themes to make you uncomfortable but then no-body ever said that the purpose of the Tarot was to highlight only the lighter things in life. Swords show plenty of the expected with the 10 being titled Ruin, however Disks are shown with their darker sides as are the Cups.

Overall, with this deck you either love it or hate it! It is a brave and exciting move away from pictorially predictable images used in Tarot but also a great example of using the full range of symbols and meanings to gain better insight into readings.

Tempting Tarot Cards

I really, really want a copy of this deck! Normally, I don't go for Celtic themes but this is beautiful and a lovely step away from the norm.

It is full of fabulous imagery and loosely Celtic but using more modern and up to date themes. Some of the figures are wonderful and the colours are great. I only hope that when it is published they do not give it a white border as I think this will make it seem wishy-washy....maybe a fabulous dark green for something abit more striking.....

Finally after a week of wrestling with technology, I have the website up and running! So now readings are available to buy there.
The trouble with websites is that the temptation to get sidetracked & add lots of cool & fun things is great. I had to remove several pages that whilst seemed cool they really weren't appropriate for the site. But know, hopefully, I have it looking & working smoothly.
Today is pretty cold here without the beautiful autumnal sunshine that we have had all week. However, I did get inspired to find some tarot cards that would perhaps have a seasonal feel...Tarot for All Seasons is the only thing I could find relating to the seasons.

So, perhaps a deck with a strong seasonal appeal might be nice, I am aware of hallowe'en and other festival decks but not, so far, any year decks... Or Oracle cards...umm I feel a project coming on!

Talking of projects I am working on the tarot art work that I want to include on the site...hopefully, scanners allowing, I will have that up in the next few days...watch this space!
